Auto
Workers Community Credit Union along with
the Ontario Charitable Foundation teamed
up and donated $19,000 for the construction
of a brand new playground for the children
and families that use the Durham Children’s
Aid Society. On Tuesday, September 18th,
2007 AWCCU unveiled the playground at the
Grand Opening of the new Durham CAS building. |
|
|
|
The
CAS has thousands of children visiting the facilities
each year and with AWCCU support children will
now have the opportunity to have fun and enjoy
being a child on this new playground. The Durham
Children’s Aid Society provides child protection
services to children under the age of 16 and their
families who live in Durham Region. The CAS has
been growing considerably over the years due to
a steady increase in the need for child protection
services and as a result they have moved into
a new 105,000 sq.ft. building at 1320 Airport
Blvd. in Oshawa.
AWCCU is always looking for ways to invest and
help people in our community succeed and grow.
We believe strongly in giving back to the community
of Durham Region and helping make it a better
place for those in need. |

Our largest community initiative is our involvement
as the presenting sponsor of the Oshawa Canada
Day at Lakeview Park. The Canada Day event has
been a part of the community for the past 26 years
and AWCCU has committed to support its growth
and continue its success into the future. In 2006
AWCCU started the first of many years as Title
Sponsor for Oshawa Canada Day.
|
|
|
AWCCU staff volunteer their time to give away prizes
throughout the day and this allows them to get in touch
with the community on a personal level outside of the
branch. Canada Day attracts families, youth and people
of all ages throughout the day who come down to enjoy
the festivities, music, activities and a fireworks presentation
to conclude the event.
